Soy Products-"Making our Kids Gay"

That's right-according to conservative publication WorldNet Daily, Jim Rutz claims that soy products are slowly poisoning our children and threatening to tear apart our culture. He explains, "Soy is feminizing, and commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion and homosexuality.....That's why most of the medical (not socio-spiritual) blame for today's rise in homosexuality must fall upon the rise in soy formula and other soy products".
He does go on to state that soy sauce is perfectly acceptable. "Unlike soy milk, it's perfectly safe because it's fermented, which changes its molecular structure. Miso, natto and tempeh are also OK, but avoid tofu."
In an effort to combat any any deviant soy or tofu effects, the Christian Coalition is encouraging parents to enrich their childrens' diets with whole milk, red meat, and other wholesome heterosexual-safe foods.
Stay tuned next week for Mr. Rutz's compelling research into the link between hummus and child pornography-"The Hidden Life of the Chickpea Freaks".

Doggie date

Ellie and her boyfriend Dugan have been bugging their humans to take them out for a special evening at Brewsters Ice Cream Parlor.
Here the lovely couple are after sharing matching "doggie cups". Our next issue is how are we going to sneak them into the movie theater??

Dog Days of Summer

Big day for the Pups! Thanks to the Frog Pond Pool, they dedicate 1 day a year to the 4-legged swimmers and let them have their day in the sun (and pool). All proceeds went to the local Humane Society Chapter. Ellie & her boyfriend Dugan had quite the swim date!

Suri, You Jest

Katie Couric's big premier as leading lady anchor for CBS.....which topic will she tackle first? Republican government gone bad, controversy in Iraq, U.S. oil crisis, paper vs. plastic....? Or perhaps, a sneak peak at that famous mystery baby that has kept us frantic with anticipation....stay tuned for more cutting edge reporting, America.

Go Monarchs!

The Sacramento Monarchs are only 1 win away from winning consecutive WNBA Championship titles (stay tuned for the big finish tomorrow night in Game 4). And, if you look closely in the pic, you can see my buddy Jess (Kara Lawson is conviently framing her head with an "L" shape). We know a real Monarchs fan we we see one!!
Hope everyone tunes into the game-these gals are awesome to watch, however, the league is still grossly lacking the support and recognition it deserves. Show 'em how it's done, ladies!!

Lake Getaway

Ahhh...nothing lake an escape to Smith Mountain Lake for the weekend. Ms. Ellie was kind enough to share her condo and boat with us. She also sends her belated apologies to the resident birds of Bernard's Landing (they are welcome to return to their peaceful setting now). Good weather, good friends, and lots of relaxation-couldn't have asked for more!

Weekend in Bath

Spent the weekend camping in Bath County. Also had fun tubing on the Cowpasture River (a very long, SLOW ride to say the least). For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, I highly recommend visiting Bath County for any type of outdoors adventure-beautiful country everywhere. Thanks to all of our Camp Nimrod buddies for the hospitality as always!

NASCAR, Survivor, and such

Another LONG weekend spent at the racetrack, unfortunately...but look who I bumped into! Everyone's favorite Survivor player (his granny is doing well, by the way).

Welcome-You've Got Hate Mail

For those who have had the pleasure of actually cancelling an AOL account, finally someone has posted proof as to what the experience is like. I myself am a proud ex-AOL member, and believe me-I had the EXACT same experience as this guy. Check out his cancellation phone call here. Hey, AOL-"NO" means NO"!!!

Show Me the Water

Out hiking with Mom and Uncle Lee, and Dugan again today. Mom told me that I couldn't get wet because I just got my Frontline medicine. I promised that me & Dugan would be on our best behavior.
But, you see, then me & Dugan thought we saw a snake-I told Dugan that Mommy hates snakes and that we needed to scare it away....next thing I knew, the snake was in the water and we HAD to chase it-right?
Sorry-Mommy. Maybe my medicine isn't all gone.. It really wasn't our fault...

Send in the Clowns

OK, enough already. Against my better judgement, for fear of giving her a second of extra attention...would someone please shut her up!

Is this a media ploy to distract our attention from the daily idiocracy in Washington? Did you think we wouldn't see that pitiful stunt pulled by Senator James Inhofe (R-OK)? Clean your closets, Senator....

By the way-I think Dick still has an opening in his hunting party-interested, Ann?

Gold Diggah Style

That's right....here they come. The team with the top handicap and now the team with the hottest shoes. This week was the debut of the official Diggah footwear-see how they shimmer! The shoes certainly did the trick too....the Diggahs were on fire. 3-3 for the night and team members set their personal records on top of it. Suffice it to say that there were heads turned and hopes of the season championship stripped from all attending. Beware the gold toes!!!

Summer is Here

Ahhhhh....nothing like beaches, the sound of ocean waves, and enjoying a fun libation by the waterside. My "Painkiller" started the weekend off just right. A quick stop in Duck, NC and we we now have made it to Avon, NC in the Outer Banks. Lots of fun here...visiting with old friends and playing LOTS of games. I have a new favorite card game now-cribbage! Look out friends-you will be forced to many hours of playing my new game now. :) Hate that it will all end tomorrow...alas, back to start my school days again (of yeah, and that nasty thing called work). Check in with ya later!

Alley-Oops

Perhaps if the Gold Diggahs spent less time in Strikers Cafe and more time concentrating on the game, we would see some forward progress. Then again, 3 wins for the night ain't so bad! With a raw team score of 444 (make that 863 with the handicaps), look out Summer Friend's League-we are on fire!
Tip of the night: Beware the woman who bowls with a personalized Elvis Presley ball..... (Smiles to our new bowlin' buddy, Wanda!!)

Auto Mechanics 101

So, as advertised, I took my car to the dealership for my "free" state inspection. Shortly thereafter, I got the dreaded phone call. It seems that they found some crack in my vehicle (NO-not in the glove box!!) According to the crack police, I was in big trouble. I'm not sure what a manifold is, or how you crack it....all I can tell you is that it's BAD. Perhaps the missing brake pads were related to the random crack?
In summary:

VA State inspection at the dealership: $0
Pack of nabs from the lobby: $0.75
Diet coke from the lobby: $2.00 (took 2 tries)
Price of VA State sticker: $872.00 (after repairs)
Being told you're busted for crack: PRICELESS

Easy on the manifold, y'all!

Derby Day

I enjoyed a wonderful evening at a local Derby party (graciously hosted by a high school best friend's folks). As always, we pulled up our sleeves, put on our best "sippa" faces, and bellied up to the Mint Julep bar. We put up a noble fight, but alas, ended up crying uncle and resorted to beers at Bob's. It was wonderful to see my old buddies-looking forward to the upcoming reunion later in the summer!
I believe I'll have to jump into the Triple Crown spirit and host a Belmont Stakes party..mark your calendars for June 10th!

Notes from the Gold Diggahs

Yes, it's Wednesday, and you know what that means-Summer Friends League action! The Gold Diggahs started out rough. We had 1 member out for pre-op festivities and another hosting family business. We had to call a bowling Code Red mid-day...luckily our buddy Scott stepped up to the plate to fill one spot. We picked up a random fourth once we arrived tonight-thanks, Donnie! (Although Donnie was a bit out of the Diggah's league...his 10 handicap was killin' us!)
The injury report continues this week, unfortunately. Bill encountered multiple problems....he reported both sweaty balls and a "butt pull" (he assures me the two were unrelated, but a gal has to wonder...things that make you go hmmm). Aside from that, we all walked out on our own accord.
Stay tuned next week for a sneak peek at the Gold Diggahs custom team shoes-GO TEAM!! Tip for the night: "I see your Elvis and raise you a turkey."

Winey Weekend

This was a weekend devoted to the grapes.....from planting to indulging, there was fun to had by all. Saturday started with the annual "planting" festivities at a friend's vineyards. This year we planted/re-planted a stock of Cabernet. Also learned how to "rub" the grapevines as a finishing task. Sunday was enjoying the art of wine from the other side-drinking! We attended the Spring Open House at beautiful Chateau Morrisette. This is ALWAYS a great time-nothing beats a little hometown Cabernet Franc! Ellie also enjoyed flirting with the Black Dogs themselves. Do yourself a favor and visit this winery-gorgeous land and awesome people await you.

Let the Games Begin!

Well, the time has arrived. After a few cocktails and some half-hearted promises, somehow I ended up at All-Star Lanes tonight to fill out the paperwork for the "Summer Friends League". Be warned...Team Gold Diggahs has entered the bowling arena. With an average handicap of 130, we are a true force to be reckoned with in the Valley. I had forgotten the pure joy of entering the world of 10-pins and cheap draft beer. The damage count tonight was 1 pinched sciatica, 1 strained coccyx, 1 hip mis-alignment, and 1 sacrificed beer (sorry, Dave!)
I have no doubts that the bar can only be raised next Wednesday night. Stay tuned for updates from Team Gold Diggahs ("I'm not saying we the..."). Tip for the night: It's all about the dots and arrows.

Lovin' Spring in VA

Thanks to our friend Mocha's dad, we found an awesome hiking trail at Carvins Cove yesterday. The best part is it's only minutes from my house! Ellie, Mocha, and Dugan had a big time (so did their humans). Good training for many more hikes to come........

Rantings From Camp Dittohead

This fool never ceases to amaze me. What is most bothersome about Rush Limbaugh, is the seemingly large group of mindless followers that he has, otherwise know as "dittoheads". While I respect the need for diverse groups in our society, this particular one is a stretch for me.
During one of his recent programs, Capt. Dittohead referred to the alleged victim of a rape by members of the Duke University lacrosse team as a "ho". You be the judge....

Fear the Turtle

Not sure what all of the hype was about the Men's NCAA Championship....if you wanted true, edge of your seat action, it was all in Boston tonight. The Lady Terps rallied an awesome 13 point comeback and extended the play action into OT before nailing a 78-75 win over Duke. It was basketball (not just women's basketball) at it's best. Shout out to both teams for fine performances!!

Happy Birthday, Ellie!

A BIG Birthday shoutout to Miss Ellie who is turning 3 today! (She accepts all donations that are peanut butter or rawhide in flavor).

Congratulations, Miss Ellie!

Today was a big day for Ellie-she successfully completed the testing to become a certified Delta Pet Partner. This will allow her to make therapeutic visits to hospitals, nursing homes, and schools. She is very excited and I am SO proud of her!!
Ellie also continues her Search and Rescue training (which means lots of hide and seek games in the woods....big fun for a lab gal like Ellie). She is actually already very good at it....it's her mom that needs more training. :)

Voted Lately?

"And let me say in conclusion, thanks for the kids. I learned an awful lot about bathtub toys-- about how to work the telephone. So it's been a good day." - January 21, at aHead Start center in Catonsville, Maryland

A Moment of Silence, Please

It was a disappointing week for the Lady Vols.....they took a devastating fall to the Lady Tarheels on Tuesday night. I'm sure Coach Summitt took it in stride, though.....team Yoga anyone?
In the mean time, I'm hoping Pat will consider a run as Hillary's V.P. candidate in 2008 (you should be scared, Cheney!)

Condi Seeks Running Mate

There has been much chatter about Rice entering the 2008 Presidential campaign. In an effort to repair the damage caused by her affiliation with the W. Administration, Condi has been spotted making several key alliances around the nation. When asked if he would consider being a 2008 running mate, Elmo declined any comment, but did comment that George W. "does not play nice with others". (In an episode of The Simpsons a parody of post-9/11 America, Elmo appeared in a political prison after supporting opponents of George W. Bush, he said, "Elmo go to wrong fundraiser.")

Holla!

Keeping in step with one of my favs, Ellen, I will periodically post Shout-Outs, or "Hollas" to those special people who just simply deserve it.
I am proud to give my first Holla to a best friend of many years-Jessica. From endless road trips, to roadside sleeping, to many "exposing" Harrisonburg adventures (Paul-here's your towel AND your spine!) I could ramble on about Jess, but in the essence of time (and privacy), please check out this wonderful article on her and Jazz......

Daily Paws

Mom's trying REALLY hard to get her new blog up and barking. In fact, she won't even play ball with me because she is stuck in front of the computer! In the mean time, I will try to post updates so her page isn't empty-Good Grief!
